Amarula

In 1989 the South African Liquer Company of South Africa launched Amarula, a rich, creamy drink enjoyed by South Africans and their friends all over the world.

Made from the fruit of the Marula tree, also known as the Elephant tree, Amarula has become a symbol of the African elephant, and a favourite gift to take home with you.

Legend has it that the fruit from the tree ferments in the sun and falls to the ground, allowing the elephants to get drunk on the caramalised flavours and the alcoholic taste sensation.

Amongst other awards, Amarula won a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2006 and was recently voted South Africa’s favourite drink.

It’s best enjoyed with ice, at sunset, from the deck of your luxury lodge.
